Prison & Probation Based Housing Support Volunteer

You will be supporting our London Housing advice and Information service to provide advice and support on all housing matters to people who would otherwise be homeless on release from prison.
In this role, you will be supporting us with all or some of the following tasks: • Adding capacity to the staff team that are based in the prison. • Explaining the housing options available to clients upon release. • Helping clients to fill out housing forms. • Supporting clients to access a range of housing options • Carrying out in-person or telephone housing assessments. • Updating clients as their cases progress. • Collaborating with external partners and agencies like probation offices • Adhering to St Mungo’s Policies and Procedures at all times.

Feeling comfortable in a prison environment. • Have personal resilience. • Good IT skills. • Be eligible and willing to complete prison security clearance (can take up to 3 months). • Client and customer focused. • Experience of working within the criminal justice system and/or the homeless sector and/or relevant studies is welcome but not essential • A friendly personality, good interpersonal skills, enthusiasm and motivation. • An understanding of the causes of homelessness and its impact. • Genuine interest in and commitment to St Mungo’s work and client group

Brixton, Feltham and Thameside – Monday- Thursday, 10am-4pm, (although some days may require an 8am start), 1-2 days per week.
