Ward Volunteer

Ward volunteers provide companionship and support to patients some of whom maybe in hospital for a long period of time. This role would suit someone who enjoys interacting with people and feels comfortable in a Ward or clinical environment. Ward volunteers are part of the Ward team, providing support to patients and assisting nursing staff with non-clinical duties.
As a Ward Volunteer you may be asked to: • Support staff during mealtimes with serving patient food/drinks to patients • Help staff make beds/trolleys • Offer support with conversation/read to and company to those patients who may feel isolated from friends and family during their hospital stay. • Engage in recreational activities with patients such as reading, playing games or just listening to them. • Assist staff with stock and PPE replenishment or offer clerical support to the ward clerk • Running errands e.g. Medical records, pharmacy • Signpost people to relevant areas, facilities and further information available. • Provide support through chatting and meeting relatives/ carers – provide drinks if required.

University Hospital Lewisham By bus A number of buses stop outside or close to the hospital, including: 47, 54, 75 (24 hour service), 122, 136, 185, 199, 208, 284, 484, P4, N36 and N47. By train Ladywell Station is a 5-10 minute walk from the hospital. Lewisham, Catford, and Catford Bridge stations are all approximately 1 mile from the hospital. By car There is limited parking at the hospital, and you should allow plenty of time to find a parking space. If you have a sat nav, you can enter the postcode SE13 6LH.
