Volunteer Energy Advisor

South East London Community Energy

We are always looking for voluntary energy advisors to help us meet the growing demand for energy advice across South East London. If you have empathetic way with people, are good with numbers, can commit to one day a week we’re looking for you.

Detailed Description

Almost one in four households cannot afford to heat their homes adequately. In this voluntary role you will build your knowledge about domestic energy while supporting our energy advisors to provide practical guidance and support to households who are struggling to pay their fuel bills. Advice we give includes: how to reduce their fuel bills by switching suppliers, accessing discounts, changing behaviour or by fitting small practical energy-saving measures such as low energy light bulbs and draught proofing. We also support the householder to access funded home energy improvements such as loft, cavity wall insulation or heating upgrades.

What skills are required for this role

Good IT Skills, Managing People, Maths, Organising & Planning, UK Driving Licence

Why these skills are required

• A can-do attitude and proven ability to work independently and in a team • An interest in energy advice • Good communication and customer service skills • Excellent interpersonal skills • An ability to use Microsoft office software. We are particularly interested in volunteers with a full clean UK Driving Licence to help our advisors get to their home visits.

Being part of the just and green energy transition in SE London. For those volunteers who are committed, we can provide National Energy Action level 3 training. This is an industry recognised standard and is a pathway to employment.

Time Commitment

We are able to accommodate any availability. To receive the free NEA training level 3 as a pathway to employment, we require a minimum of 1 day per week or 7 hours over a sustained period of time.

Our offices are based at The Forum at Greenwich, Trafalgar Road, SE10 9EQ However, this role can involve working out and about in the community across Greenwich, Lewisham, Bromley and Bexley. Location specific work can also be negotiated on an ad-hoc basis.
