Detailed Description

Join our Edible Garden Community! Situated within the University of Greenwich, Avery Hill Campus (SE9 2UG), our edible garden started back in 2012. Managed by the Sustainability Team, the garden is largely run by students, staff and community volunteers. Currently a small community, we would like to grow. The garden is made up of raised beds, a poly-tunnel, forest garden, a pond and orchard. The produce that is harvested is available to all, encouraging healthy diets and providing a valuable resource for students who may be on a budget. The garden is not just about growing however, it is also a place to enjoy wildlife, have lunch or simply relax surrounded by nature. Volunteer gardening sessions take place every Wednesday 12noon-2pm. We’re all novices and enjoy the learning experience in trialling new produce and making friends. Equipment is provided, and tasks include sowing, watering, weeding, path relaying and general maintenance of a natural landscape. Every volunteer needs to complete an induction. Would you like to get involved? If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the Sustainability Team through edible-garden@greenwich.ac.uk so we can arrange a time to meet.
