Cafe Volunteer

St Joseph's Hospice Hackney

Volunteers are needed in the Five Sisters Café to prepare and sell food and drinks to visitors and staff. This is an ideal opportunity if you want to make new friends and develop your skills and experience in a retail environment

Detailed Description

St Joseph’s Hospice looks after and supports people over 18 years of age with incurable life limiting conditions. We aim to help people to ‘live’ with their illness as comfortably and independently as they can. We also aim to support friends, families and carers who may also be affected by an individual's illness. The Hospice is looking for volunteers to help in the running of our café in our Community Hub, on the ground floor of the hospice. Our café sells a range of freshly made sandwiches, snacks, and hot meals. Hot and cold drinks also served. Key Tasks • Serving customers in a warm and welcoming manner • Assisting the catering team in the day to day running of the café • Able to handle and prepare simple foods for customers (training provided) • Able to take orders, operate the till and handle money • Using light cooking equipment for our in house grab & go selection. (training provided) • Keeping shelves stocked up, clearing, and cleaning tables. Time Requirement The café is open Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 5pm. Desirable: Volunteers who are creative or have had experience of merchandising in shops, and in particular in food retail environments. We are looking for enthusiastic people who are willing to help visitors enjoy their time at the hospice. Training offered: All volunteers will receive training in: • Customer service. • Food Safety Level 2 Certificate • Using the till and light cooking equipment This is in addition to our 1 day Volunteer Induction training.
