Sessional Youth Worker

Volunteers will support in planning and recording the sessions, leading activities and involving young people and encouraging participation.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our team of sessional youth workers delivering a structured programme of group work and activities that endeavour to meet the needs of children and young people who have experienced emotional hardship. The sessions are all based in Croydon.

We’re looking for passionate volunteers to support our monthly youth programmes. You’d be joining a flexible team of staff, so attendance at every session isn’t required. This opportunity involves supporting two community youth group sessions held on the first Thursday of each month, totalling 4.5 hours. • Junior session (ages 8–12): 5:45pm–6:45pm • Senior session (ages 13–19): immediately after 7-9pm • 30 minutes required for setup time and pack up time. Sessions are delivered at Bedford Hall, Wellesley Road, West Croydon. Additional opportunities may include supporting occasional half-term day trips, when scheduled". · Experience of working with children and young people in a variety of settings. · Experience of working as part of a team as well as using your own initiative to deliver a structured programme of activities. · Good sense of humour and social interaction skills. · Reliable and punctual, non-judgmental. · Willing to participate in physical and recreational activities. · Ability to work with young people and families from a wide range of diverse backgrounds. · Experience of providing one to one support to children and young people (not essential). · Good communication skills, verbal and written, and experience of consulting children and young people. · An ability to support children and young people with issues of emotional well-being, educational/career, social, practical or recreational needs during a session. · An ability to work in a way that promotes the safety and well-being of children and young people. · An awareness and commitment to implement child protection and safeguarding procedures (this will also be part of training).
