Co-ordinator with Read Easy Hackney
Read Easy
Due to expansion, an exciting opportunity has arisen to play a key role within Read Easy Hackney, a well-established local charity, helping adults to learn to read. You will be joining two other existing Co-ordinators, who liaise closely with a strong team of other volunteers, to ensure the smooth running of the group. Full training is provided and you will receive support from the Team Leader and management team, as well as the national charity, Read Easy UK.
For this role, essential skills include patience, empathy, commitment, time, an ability to work collaboratively, and a sense of humour! Since the onset of the Covid pandemic, the support provided to new Readers by the Reading Coaches has moved from being in-person to online and/or remote. Therefore, familiarity and a basic competence with the video conferencing platform, Zoom and WhatsApp are distinct advantages, although there is ample support available from within the group to help develop these skills if required. The main duties of this role are to: - Assist RE Hackney's Volunteer Recruiter to shortlist and interview new Reading Coaches; - Attend training with newly appointed Reading Coaches; - Match Reading Coaches to new Readers (currently conducted remotely): - Observe Reading Pairs (Reader with Reading Coach) to maintain quality of service (again, currently carried out remotely) and provide ongoing support to a tranche of Coaches; - Present certificates to Readers as they move through the (5) different stages of the reading programme: - Collaborate with the Team's existing Co-ordinators to keep records up-to-date and report to the management team at monthly team meetings - Carry out a 'finisher interview' with a Reader on completion of the programme
