Volunteering at the Tree Nursery

hackney tree musketeers

Our focus changes seasonally, but our twice-weekly volunteering sessions regularly includes things like moving materials like compost, woodchip using wheelbarrows, weeding around the trees in their pots and around site, taking cuttings of plants to be propagated, potting trees into bigger pots, watering trees in their pots, collecting tree seeds, sowing seeds in trays, writing labels, turning the compost and maintaining tools + equipment.

Detailed Description

We are looking for volunteers to join in our regular volunteering sessions at Hackney Community Tree Nursery. This is where we propagate and nurture trees for planting out across the borough. The Nursery also contains an orchard/forest garden and small apiary maintained by volunteers. You can drop in for volunteer sessions at the Tree Nursery on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am till 3pm. We break for refreshments around 12 and you can bring a packed lunch if you’d like. Tea and coffee are provided. If it’s your first time attending one of our volunteer sessions we recommend arriving at 10am so you can be given a tour of the site and a safety induction.

You will also be putting something back into your community by helping green up estates and combatting climate change by increasing the number of trees in urban spaces. The role can be as flexible as you want.
