Head and Neck Team Support Volunteer

Volunteering as part of our Head and Neck Cancer team and in the radiotherapy area, we are looking for volunteers who would be keen to directly support patients with a new mouth care treatment that aims to reduce the side effects of radiotherapy. The role requires overseeing patients and providing hands-off assistance to help them use specific equipment to ease their symptoms. This is a non-clinical role but requires direct contact with patients who have Cancer. (You must be over 18)

(You must be over 18) Key tasks may include the following: • Welcoming patients and introducing yourself • Gaining a good knowledge of how to use the equipment • Preparing the equipment for the patients to self-use • Supporting and advising patient on how to use the equipment • Reassuring patients as required • Ensuring all equipment is wiped down after each use as instructed in training. • Liaise with a named staff contact if there are any questions, issues or concerns. • Maintaining a clear and tidy area This is a hands-off role, so volunteers are mainly supervising patients to ensure they know how to use the equipment, all training will be provided on the use of the equipment which is basic instructions and non-technical.
