Detailed Description

Become a Dementia Befriender and help support older people living with dementia by providing companionship in the home and local community. An ‘Understanding Dementia’ course is provided with regular support groups to help you in your role.

Befriending, Buddying & Mentoring,Caring,Support Work,Community Work

What skills are required for this role

Art & Craft, IT skills - basic, IT Skills - good, Language Skills, Managing People

An understanding and empathy with older people A caring supportive nature with excellent communication skills Able to assimilate information by listening and then being able to relay this clearly An understanding and empathy with older people

A volunteer dementia support befriender's comments, " I volunteered three years ago as a befriender initially visiting but during Covid times I became a telephone befriender and initially I was concerned that I might not have enough conversational topics, with a man I had never met face to face. I need not have worried, we chat twice a week covering childhood, careers, local areas, sport, current affairs, gardening, and recipes. "
