FATHER TO FATHER MENTORING

Fatherhood can be challenging! As part of our Father to Father peer mentoring project, we are looking for male mentors who can mentor new, young, and vulnerable fathers, to provide that added support that is need to enable them to feel empowered in their fathering role.

Detailed Description

Fathers to Fathers Project Fathers to Fathers is a special mentoring project that seeks to support fathers in their fathering role. We recognize the importance of fathers in families, and the benefits to children when fathers are involved in an active way. We understand that fathers face many challenges in their parenting role, this is particularly the case if there is parental conflict, domestic abuse, separation, and problems with co-parenting. As part of this project, we want to engage with fathers in a positive and supportive way to ensure that their children are able to enjoy a good stable relationship and to achieve positive outcomes in their development. Peer mentoring is a useful and impactful way of engaging with fathers, in a meaningful way. We are looking for men who are able to commit 2-3 hours a week mentoring and supporting a father to empower him in his fathering role through mentoring and coaching. No special qualifications are necessary to become a Home-Start volunteer, but volunteers are usually parents or grandparents or those with an interest in, and experience of, young children and family life, or those who are interested in careers within social care. We welcome volunteers from all sections of the community.

What skills are required for this role

Why these skills are required

All volunteers will be fully trained to undertake their volunteering role, our main criteria is that they are able to provide satisfactory references, have experience of fathering or have worked in a social care, education, coaching type environment, and be willing to undertake an enhanced DBS check.
