You may have experience of working in catering in a previous role. You will work with the kitchen staff to support their work and assist with service drinks and food and may also get involved in helping to feed clients who need assistance
The Saxon Day Centre is located in Lych Gate Road just off Orpington High Street. We provide day care services and support for carers in the local area. Visitors to the centre are provided with breakfast on arrival, drinks throughout the day and a two course lunch at 12.30 pm. We are looking for volunteers to support the kitchen with food preparation, serving drinks and refreshments and assisting with lunch. You may have worked in the catering industry previously or just enjoy cooking and working with older people. You should be outgoing, enthusiastic and understand the needs of older people and the importance of good nutrition and hydration. Ideally you should be prepared to assist clients with feeding if this is required. The centre is open Monday to Friday. We are looking for volunteers to work from 10.00 am until 2.00 pm. We will provide you with refreshments during your visit and if you want to have lunch with us you can order this at a small cost of £2.00. There are no age restrictions for volunteers but you must be physically fit and be prepared to join in and work as part of the team. You will be provided with an induction into the centre and will be required to undertake some training relevant to the role you have applied for. In order to apply you will need to complete and application form. We will need to obtain references and a DBS as you will be working with vulnerable elderly clients. This is a very rewarding and satisfying role and it provides you with the opportunity to meet local elderly residents and ensure they are not isolated in their own home.

You may have previous experience of working in the catering industry. You will be working with the kitchen staff to prepare drinks and food including serving and washing up. You may be required to support individuals with eating if they are unable to do so independently.
Helping in the kitchen can be very rewarding knowing that you are assisting with food and drink preparation to support some of our elderly frail clients who may not get a hot, nutritional, home cooked meal.
