Activities Volunteer
Age Concern Orpington and District (Saxon Centre)
We are looking for people to work with our clients doing activities in groups, on a one-to-one basis or as part of a large group. Activities will include both ladies and gentlemen, although you may have particular experience with one particular group.
The Saxon Day Centre is located in Lych Gate Road just off Orpington High Street and provides day care services and support for carers in the local area. In order to support our clients we provide a varied range of activities. Some of these are provided in groups or on an individual basis. Activities are designed to be socially engaging and provide a fun environment. We are looking to recruit a number of volunteer activity co-ordinators to support our staff with the delivery of activities. You should be outgoing, enthusiastic and be prepared to get involved and make these activities entertaining. The centre is open to clients from 10 am until 3.00 pm Monday to Friday. We are looking for volunteers to work from 10.00 am – 12 noon and from 12 noon until 3.00 pm. You can work all day if you are available to do so. We will provide you with refreshments during your visit and if you want to have lunch with us you can order this at a small cost of £2.00. There are no age restrictions for volunteers but you must be physically fit and be prepared to join in and work as part of the team. You will be provided with an induction into the centre and will be required to undertake some training relevant to the role you have applied for. In order to apply you will need to complete and application form. We will need to obtain references and a DBS as you will be working with vulnerable elderly clients. This is a very rewarding and satisfying role and it provides you with the opportunity to meet local elderly residents and ensure they are not isolated in their own home.

Ideally you will have some knowledge of the type of activities that older people might enjoy. This may be from a hobby or interest you already have or perhaps skills you have developed during your career. You will need to be outgoing and prepared to get stuck in as part of the team.
Working with older people on a one to one basis or as part of a small or larger group can be very satisfying for anybody who wants to help entertain them during their time at the centre. Older people may have been socially isolated and providing them with the opportunity to get involved in a range of group or individual activities is very much appreciated by our clients and their carers.
