Assistants for SEN Youth Choir

The Otakar Kraus Music Trust are looking for some responsible volunteers to help at our OK Youth Choir on Saturdays, which is for children and young people with additional needs. This role is suitable for people who care about making music accessible to all. It could provide useful experience, especially for those who plan to train in any of the arts therapies, or want to work with vulnerable people in some way in the future.
The Otakar Kraus Music Trust are looking for some responsible, kind and enthusiastic volunteers to help at our OK Youth Choir. The choir is for children and young people with additional needs and disabilities, aged 5-25. This role is suitable for people who care about making music accessible to all. It could provide useful experience, especially for those who plan to train in any of the arts therapies, or want to work with vulnerable people in some way in the future. Volunteer role duties: • Welcoming choir members into the room, taking a register • Participating as a choir member, encouraging and supporting other members, helping them get around where necessary • Assisting our music therapist/choir leader in maintaining engagement and safety of members, as well as with anything else she may need such as setting up the room etc. • Assisting with the choir at our Christmas and Summer concerts Our ideal candidate: • Has some musical experience • Has some knowledge of Makaton But most importantly: • Has some experience working alongside vulnerable people • Is alert and able to stay calm whilst assisting people with additional needs • Is passionate about caring for others • Is patient and kind • Enjoys singing and/or joining in with a musical group • Is able to commit to every Saturday during term time, at the time stated below Successful applicants will be required to undergo a full DBS check, which we will arrange for you, and take a Level 1 Child Safeguarding course online.

Our ideal candidate: • Has some musical experience • Has some basic knowledge of Makaton • Has some experience working alongside vulnerable people • Is alert and able to stay calm whilst assisting people with additional needs • Is passionate about caring for others • Is patient and kind • Enjoys singing and/or joining in with a musical group • Is able to commit to every Saturday morning during term time, from 10.45 - 11.30am, plus at our two concerts per year (Saturday afternoons)
Assisting at our Youth Choir could provide useful experience, especially for those who plan to train in any of the arts therapies, or want to work with vulnerable people in some way in the future. You may also pick up new skills such as learning new Makaton signs!
Every Saturday during term time, 10.45 - 11.30am.
