Detailed Description

Join Sirens & Sparkles as a Youth Helper with our Otters SEND club for young people aged 11–17 in Sidcup. 🦦 Otters – ages 11–17 📅 Thursday evenings You will work alongside the Club Manager and Youth Leaders, helping members take part in practical activities including first aid, safety, communication, creativity, independence and life skills. Youth Helpers can be fully involved in supporting members and activities but are not responsible for running or being in charge of the club. Training, guidance and ongoing support are provided. Open to volunteers aged 18+.

Why these skills are required

Knowledge or understanding of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) is preferred but not essential. This may come from work, volunteering, education, caring responsibilities or lived experience. We are looking for someone who is friendly, patient, reliable and willing to learn. You should be comfortable working as part of an inclusive team, including alongside Leaders and volunteers with SEND, and respectful of different needs, abilities and communication styles. Youth Helpers work alongside the Club Manager and Youth Leaders. They can be fully involved in supporting members and activities but are not responsible for being in charge of the club. Training and ongoing support will be provided.

Time Commitment

Otters meets on Thursday evenings during term time. We ask Youth Helpers to attend regularly wherever possible, as consistency helps our members become familiar with the volunteer team and build positive, trusting relationships. We understand that volunteers may have work, study, family and other commitments, so occasional absence is absolutely fine. We simply ask volunteers to let us know in advance wherever possible. Volunteers will also need to attend induction and required training.

By Train: Sidcup Station is approximately a 14-minute (0.6 mile) walk. Exit towards Station Road and follow Station Road towards Sidcup High Street. By Bus: Routes 51, 160, 229, 269, 286, 321 and SL3 serve Sidcup. Alight at Sidcup/Carlton Road or Sidcup High Street/Station Road. Landmark: We are located inside the Sidcup Library building on the High Street, approximately a 2-minute walk from the old Sidcup Police Station. Parking: There is no dedicated visitor parking at the building. Pay & Display parking is available at 108 Main Road Car Park, approximately a 2-minute walk away. Limited paid and free street parking is also available on surrounding roads, including St John's Road.
