Support The Mulberry Centre by helping to set up and run our information stand at events and by delivering leaflets and other printed information to designated locations within the local community. The intention behind this is to raise awareness within the local community of the existence of, and how to access, the support service provided by our Centre. There is also the opportunity to take part in stalls/event helpdesks or talks within the community. Time Commitment – Flexible.
This fun role aims to support The Mulberry Centre by helping out regularly at our stand at community events and by delivering leaflets and other printed information to designated locations within the local community. The intension behind this is to raise awareness within the local community of the existence of, and how to access, the support services for those affected by cancer provided by our Centre. Good communications skills required. Time Commitment – Flexible, at least 4 hours a month Main Duties - Running or assisting to run our information and cancer awareness help desks at a variety of community events/locations. - Checking your assigned location to monitor their supply of literature and delivering replacement literature where needed. - Recording locations where you have been and what has been done. - Seek out suitable new locations on your patch to display information. - Record details and feedback any organisations which may value presentations and workshops. - If desired, raising awareness through talks at specified venues and community events. - Any other suitable related tasks and duties that maybe set by the Community Engagement Lead. Volunteer Specification: • Ability to acquire knowledge of what our service offers to people affected by cancer. You will be updated regularly by receiving the monthly newsletter and accessing our website plus other updates from the Community Engagement Lead. • Good communication skills. • Ability to work unsupervised. • The ability to travel to and access specific locations in your patch (we will be carrying out this work in Hounslow, Richmond & Ealing areas) as directed by the Community Engagement Lead. • The ability to use your initiative to identify other suitable locations in your patch. • The ability to record your activity and provide written evidence of what you have done. We particularly welcome volunteers who can speak and translate into other languages spoken widely in the local community as well as English. Support and Training • You will be provided with an induction covering the objective of the role, the work of our Centre, and its procedures and policies relevant for your volunteering role. • We will do our best to assist your volunteering role with us. This will include evaluation sessions and we will continue to keep you updated with all the relevant information on what support The Mulberry Centre offers. • There will be an initial 3 monthly, then annual review with the Community Engagement Lead. • Expenses are paid for travel by public transport or own vehicle. Next Steps • Complete the online application form • If your application is successful, we will invite you along to an informal Interview. • If you are accepted as a volunteer, we will contact your two referees. • All volunteers must attend an Induction and Centre training and specific training to their role. Visiting different areas of Richmond, Hounslow and Ealing. Interacting with staff at specific public locations such as libraries, GP surgeries, health clinics, etc. Opportunity to take part in help desks and promotional talks at community events (outside of office hours, especially in the summer and lead up to Xmas)

We are based in grounds of West Middlesex University Hospital, however, this role will involve visiting specific places around our catchment area so we are looking for volunteers who can travel within Hounslow, Richmond, or Ealing.
