Role Detail

Borough Market collection cyclist

Plan Zheroes

Looking for cyclists to help us redistribute surplus food from Borough Market to local charities.

Detailed Description

Since expanding our surplus food collections, we need to expand our team of cyclists. This opportunity would be ideal for someone who cycles to work or lives in the London Bridge area as the timing of this opportunity is key. For Tuesday to Saturday collections, you would need to available from 17:30-18:30 and 16:30-17:30 on Sundays. We are looking for volunteers who can commit to at least one day a month (more often would be ideal). While the timing of collections is inflexible, we can offer flexibility on the day of the week as, once trained, volunteers can sign up monthly for collections.

What skills are required for this role

Organising & Planning

Why these skills are required

You will need to be mobile and strong enough to cycle while carrying a rucksack weighing on average 15kg on your back for a maximum of 30 minutes. Tuesday to Saturday you would need to be available from 17:30-18:00 and from 16:30-17:00 on Sundays. You will need to bring your own bike, but the food carrier will be provided.

What is in it for you

Volunteering with Plan Zheroes allows you to be a part of both the Borough Market and our own Plan Zheroes community. Lots of our volunteers attend regularly and so you will get to know people who likely live or work in the London Bridge area. Another benefit is that this is a very time efficient way to volunteer - our cyclists are only needed for about an hour, and our Borough Market location means that this could be an ideal end of day volunteering opportunity for those that cycle to and from work, or for those living in the area. This could also be a great corporate opportunity for organisations looking to get involved in the local community. We have previously worked with organisations where they might, for example, staff all Tuesday collections and they run an internal rotation to staff each week.
