Children's Residential Project Driver

Free to be Kids

Free to Be run adventurous, nature based residentials for vulnerable young people.

Detailed Description

Our Drivers volunteer 1 week at a time, staying on-site overnight, and are integral in making our projects work! As many of our young people would be unable to get to a central meeting point, we go and pick them all up from their houses at the start of the project and drop them off again at the end. We also go out to activities in the minibus each day and unsurprisingly, when asked to draw a picture to summarise their week at Free to Be, many of the children have the minibus as a key feature!

What skills are required for this role

UK Driving Licence

Why these skills are required

We welcome volunteers from all walks of life, regardless of their previous experience working with young people. No special skillset is required; we recognise the value of a team consisting of different personalities and strengths. If you are an empathetic, patient and adaptable person you will fare well on our projects. Please note that fro driving roles we can only accept volunteers aged 21 or over who have been driving for 3 years or more. For any of our other roles we can accept applicants who are 18+. We especially encourage applications from those who represent the lived experiences of our children through their own lived experience or background.

What is in it for you

You will get the opportunity to work with some brilliant young people and make a tangible difference in their lives, whilst also working alongside incredible likeminded people! You will have the support of experienced volunteers and staff, who will check in with you daily to assess your current wellbeing on the project. You will also have access to a more in-depth discussion at the end of the week to reflect on your strengths and areas for improvement whilst volunteering with us. As well as all of that we will provide training in safeguarding and require you to go on a MIDAS (minibus driving) course prior to the project, which is funder and arranged by us.

Time Commitment

We ask that you commit to volunteering for a 7-day residential programme, where you will stay on site for the duration.
