About Mill Lane Garden Centre: Mill Lane Garden Centre is a social enterprise run by the London based charity Unity Works. We provide training opportunities and wellbeing support to people with a learning disability, enabling them to live the lives they choose. To facilitate and fund this project, we run a small garden centre in the heart of West Hampstead with a growing clientele that requires helpful, friendly people to advise customers on selecting suitable plants and provide information on how to care for them once they return home. Position Summary: Christmas volunteers We are seeking passionate and dedicated volunteers to join our team. The Christmas Volunteer will play a key role in stewarding our customers, with information on who we are as a charity and supporting our Mission and Values. The volunteer will present Seasonal Cheer and Joy, ensuring a warm and friendly welcoming environment for customers as well as supporting with, deliveries, presentation of signage for ease of mobility. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to make a difference to their local community.

Experience and Skills • Reliable, punctual, and able to commit to agreed volunteer shifts. • Calm, patient, and confident when speaking with members of the public. • Respectful and inclusive in communication with customers, staff, volunteers, and people with learning disabilities. • Willingness to follow health and safety guidance and ask for help when unsure. • Comfortable working outdoors in cold, wet, or busy seasonal conditions. • Able to maintain appropriate boundaries and confidentiality. • Flexible and willing to support different tasks as priorities change. • Awareness and an interest in social impact project or a social enterprise • Communication Skills: Friendly and approachable, welcoming to all visitors • Physical Fitness: Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods. • Team Player: Ability to work well with others and follow instructions. • Resourceful and able to use initiative with limited resources at hand. We are also looking for volunteers with some experience in general DIY and/or carpentry.

Time Commitment

Time commitments: Volunteers are asked to commit to one 5-hour shift per week for a 6 consecutive weeks, starting week commencing 16 November. Available shift times are usually 10am–3pm or 1pm–6pm. Volunteers who would like to offer more than one shift per week are very welcome to do so, depending on availability and rota needs. We will discuss preferred days and shift patterns with each volunteer in advance.
