What is the role? This role sits within the RAF Museum’s Midlands Development Programme which will transform our museum and our impact on the local community though a series of phased projects – engaging audiences who may not obviously identify with the RAF story by finding common interests and histories which link them. As part of this project, we are planning a new learning centre, outdoor spaces, collections hub and major exhibition. The RAF Museum is looking for a small team of Communications and Marketing Volunteers. The role can be based in the Midlands or London, with the option to assist remotely. This person will volunteer alongside the Communications and Marketing team and is suited to someone interested in content creation and social media, has good writing and communication skills, and is keen to assist with a wide range of exciting filming, promotional, news and event opportunities. What will I be doing? You will be assisting the Communications and Marketing team with a range of activities, including: • Using the Museum collections to create social media posts • Creating video content for Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and X including captions so content is accessible • Drafting social media posts for multiple platforms (including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, X and Blue Sky), dependent upon the subject/content • Meeting with staff onsite to develop ideas for stories • You will be invited to attend events or interview staff and other professionals involved in the Midlands Development Programme • Develop written and video blogs based on content from either our Midlands site, our stored collection in Stafford, or content in London related to the Midlands Development Programme • Capture photos to support blog posts and general marketing campaigns • Assist with updating content on the Museum’s website • Support the team by hosting media visits and attending events both on and off-site • Assist with research and content planning, by identifying awareness days, RAF and other relevant anniversaries, and trending topics to help build the content calendar • Adapt existing blogs, videos and stories into short-form social posts, newsletters or LinkedIn content • Assist with the analysis of campaigns • Submit draft content to the team for sign off and publication of content.

• Love social media and are full of ideas • Are confident tailoring content to multiple platforms • Have good copywriting skills with a good level of spelling, grammar and proof-reading, as well as having a creative flair for producing engaging copy • Can work quickly and efficiently, without compromising on quality • Have access to computer/laptop/tablet/phone, with internet connection to be able to work at the Museum (Midlands or London), our stored collection in Stafford, or remotely from home • We can offer you informal training and guidance in all these areas.

Time Commitment

This is a flexible role in terms of days and hours, depending on the projects and activities taking place at the Museum which require communications support. Many of the content projects can be done at a time and pace mutually agreed.

RAF Museum London- Thameslink Hendon Station , Mill Hill Station (20 min walk), nearest underground Colindale Station, 303 bus route, by car Junction 4 M1 (10 mins), A41, A406, A5. car park onsite, free to volunteers, RAF Museum is in ULEZ RAF Museum Midlands- RAF Museum Midlands is based in Cosford, TF11 8UP. It is 30 minutes from Birmingham, M6 southbound junction 12 via A5, one mile from M54 junction 3 There is plenty of parking and parking is free for volunteers. The site is also reachable by train on the Birmingham to Shrewsbury line. The Museum is a half mile walk from the train station. Unfortunately, the train station does not have step free access at present. There is a bus stop a one mile walk from the Museum. The Museum is on National Cycle Route 81. MOD Stafford-Within Lane, Stafford, ST18 0AQ
