Do you enjoy hands on garden maintenance tasks? We welcome thousands of children and young people each year on educational visits, and our outdoor study area takes careful mowing and pruning to keep it safe for groups, but also full of wildlife to see!

Detailed Description

> Learning how the area is used by groups so you can leave growing what they need in the area whilst keeping paths and study areas safe and accessible. > Collecting the right tools and equipment needed for the tasks each time, and then cleaning and returning it to its proper place afterwards. > Using hand tools to cut back excessive brambles, nettles etc. from path edges and study areas. > Repairs to signage and other structures in the area. > Using an electric push mower to mow a small patch of grass. > There are also maintenance tasks you could support with in our indoor facilities (the Snuff Mill), if this is also of interest.

> Use or develop your experience in the use of hand tools, electric mower and other equipment to manage vegetation and pathways. > Create a safe outdoor study environment for visiting groups of children. > Help look after the wildlife in this special natural habitat. > Use your experience and imagination to create and repair signage in the area. > Work alone, and sometimes with others, to complete the maintenance tasks. > Make an important contribution behind the scenes in a non-public area to support our work with visiting children and young people. > There will also be opportunities to support the team with indoor maintenance and repairs of the CYP Hub building (the Snuff Mill). You’d also be joining Europe’s largest conservation charity and the wider National Trust team proudly looking after 780 miles of coastline, over 250,000 hectares of land, over 500 historic houses, castles, ancient monuments, gardens, parks and nature reserves (including lighthouses, villages, pubs and a gold mine!).
