This can include how to use Meta Rayban glasses/assistive technology, providing detailed information about support services and being a listening ear to those who are feeling anxious or concerned.

Detailed Description

Our Health & Information Hub volunteers support our team provide advice, guidance and support for patients looking for non-clinical care. This can include how to use Meta Rayban glasses/assistive technology, providing detailed information about support services and being a listening ear to those who are feeling anxious or concerned. Our volunteers are currently based at Moorfields Eye Hospital, City Road but we will be relocating to our new site based at St. Pancras Way, NW1 0PE in summer 2027. We are also looking to expand our influence at our diagnostic testing site referred to as Moorfields, Hoxton Bracklyn Street, N1 7TX after the refurbishment work takes place. We would appreciate help at any of these locations. Friends of Moorfields volunteers perform an extremely important job ensuring that all patients who come to Moorfields feel comfortable, reassured and receive the best possible treatment regardless of the outcome of their appointment. We require all volunteers to undergo the recruitment process which includes some online training and a DBS check. All volunteers must be willing to commit to a minimum of 3 hours per week for 6 months. We will be happy to support volunteers with references/UCAS statements, training opportunities and looking for careers.

Why these skills are required

We need calm, empathetic and understanding volunteers. You must be proactive in your support, and have excellent listening and communication skills.

What is in it for you

The ability to make a real difference to patients experience and know you are doing good. We also provide support with volunteers by writing references/UCAS statements and lunch/refreshment vouchers are provided to anyone who volunteers for 3 hours or more.

Time Commitment

A minimum of a once weekly slot of 3 hours per week with the intention of committing to 6 months.
