Kilburn State of Mind (KSOM) is looking for a practical and reliable volunteer to help keep our Play Hut in Kilburn Grange Park safe, functional and welcoming for everyone who uses it. As a Facilities & Maintenance Volunteer, you'll play an important role in supporting our community activities by helping to identify and resolve minor maintenance issues before they become bigger problems. Your contribution will help ensure that children, families, volunteers and visitors can enjoy a well-maintained and safe environment. What you'll do * Carry out routine facilities inspections. * Undertake minor maintenance and DIY tasks where safe and appropriate. * Unblock sinks and deal with minor plumbing issues. * Replace light bulbs, batteries and other consumable items. * Check that doors, locks, windows, gates and fixtures are working correctly. * Tighten loose fixtures and fittings. * Assemble or carry out minor repairs to furniture and equipment. * Report maintenance issues that require specialist attention. * Help maintain a simple facilities log and report completed work. * Assist with preparing the Play Hut for activities and community events when required. Please note This role involves **general facilities maintenance only** and does **not** include electrical work, gas work, major plumbing, roofing, structural repairs or any work requiring specialist qualifications or certification. Where specialist repairs are needed, volunteers will report the issue so that KSOM can arrange an appropriate contractor.

We're looking for someone with practical DIY or maintenance skills, good problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach. You should be reliable, able to work independently, take pride in maintaining community facilities and understand basic health and safety. You don't need to be a qualified tradesperson—we'll provide an induction and ongoing support.
Volunteering with KSOM is a great way to use your practical skills to make a real difference in your local community. You'll be part of a friendly and supportive team, meet new people and help maintain a valued community hub used by children, families and local residents. You'll gain the satisfaction of seeing the direct impact of your work, develop or maintain your practical skills, and have opportunities to learn about facilities management in a community setting. We'll provide an induction, ongoing support and, where appropriate, a volunteer reference to recognise your contribution.
Flexible. We ask for around **2–4 hours per week**, or **4–8 hours per month**, depending on your availability. Volunteers can agree a regular day or help on an ad hoc basis when maintenance tasks arise. Occasional additional support may be requested before or after community events, but there is no minimum commitment.

Alternatively, you can use Priory Park Road (Stop J), served by routes 16, 32, 98, 189, 316 and 632, which is around a 5-minute walk. The Play Hut is the wooden community building located just inside the park near the tennis courts.
