Mind in Harrow
Somali speaking volunteers who reflect the diversity of the Somali culture in Harrow.
With the support and help of the Hayaan Project Coordinator, volunteers will work together as ‘Peer Educators’ to support Somali mental health service users and their families or cares by: arranging regular support meetings/lunch arranging regular information sessions (eg mental health, GP’s, housing) sharing the Somali cultural perspective with these service providers acting as an interpreter and helping service users to talk with service providers and share their point of view helping service users understand which services can help them.

Fluency In Somali language is essential and English
• A comprehensive training course to equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to carry out this role confidently, including meeting and supporting people in your local community • Regular, ongoing support and supervision from an experienced team • Full insurance cover (please note this does not include car insurance) • Reimbursement of all reasonable out-of-pocket expenses
We expect volunteers to offer 1 day a week which equates to 7 hours for 1 year

The entrance to our office is in Headstone Road, near to the entrance of St Georges Car Park, only a few minutes’ walk from Harrow Bus and Train Station.
