Board of Trustees' Treasurer

Global Generation

Global Generation (GG) is looking for an experienced Treasurer to join our board and help us achieve our vision and goals as we establish our first permanent site. The ideal candidate will have innovative ideas, be able to think outside of the box, have an entrepreneurial spirit, and have a genuine interest in the natural environment, sustainable spaces, and youth work. We particularly welcome applications from people of Black and Minoritised Ethnic heritage.

Detailed Description

We are looking for a Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees to oversee the financial health of the organisation and ensure that it's managed in a way that protects its financial integrity. With the establishment of our first permanent site, we are at an exciting new juncture and are seeking a candidate who can help steer the direction of the charity and secure its long-term sustainability. The ideal candidate will have innovative ideas, be able to think outside of the box, have an entrepreneurial spirit, and have a genuine interest in the natural environment, sustainable spaces, and youth work. We particularly welcome applications from people of Black and Minoritised Ethnic heritage to reflect the diverse communities that we work with and to help us further develop the social and environmental justice aspects of our work across all of our programmes.

Why these skills are required

Key responsibilities include: 1) Actively participate as a key member of the Board of Trustees and Finance Working Group; 2) Working with the Joint CEOs and accountant on the presentation of budgets, internal management accounts and annual financial statements to the Board of Trustees; 3) Ensuring, at a board level, that proper accounting records and systems are kept, and that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place, to minimise financial risk; 4) Being knowledgeable of the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plan, including overseeing the charity’s financial risk-management process; 5) Ensuring investments and assets are maximised; 6) Keeping the board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities and liaising with the Joint CEOs and chair to develop the financial understanding of the Board of Trustees; 7) Being assured that the financial resources of the organisation meet its present and future needs; 8) Ensuring that the accounts are prepared and disclosed in the form required by funders and the relevant statutory bodies, for example the Charity Commission and/or the Companies House; 9) Assisting on the independent audit of annual accounts and ensuring that any recommendations are implemented.

Time Commitment

Board members are expected to attend quarterly board meetings, of which 2 are in-person and 2 are online. The treasurer is expected to also attend quarterly finance meetings with the Joint CEOs and our accountant, prior to the quarterly board meetings.
