Mind in Camden

Community Champions are Highgate residents who use their local knowledge and networks to improve health, wellbeing, and community connections. They engage residents, share information, deliver events, and collaborate with local groups and the council to address priorities. Champions promote inclusion, support access to services, provide feedback on local needs, and help create a healthier, happier, and more connected neighbourhood.

Detailed Description

Community Champions are Highgate residents who use their knowledge, relationships, and passion for their neighbourhood to help improve health and wellbeing, strengthen community connections, and tackle local inequalities. As a Community Champion, you will act as a trusted local voice, helping people access information and services, shaping activities that bring neighbours together, and creating positive change in your community. You will work closely with the Community Champions Coordinator and other Champions to listen to residents, understand their priorities, and support local projects that make your area healthier, happier, and more connected. Key Responsibilities As a Community Champion, you will: Engage with residents to listen, share information, and understand what matters most to your community. Raise awareness and signpost residents to health and wellbeing services (e.g. stop smoking, vaccination, mental health, physical activity, and family support). Deliver or co-deliver local activities and events such as cooking or exercise sessions, community gardening, family meet-ups, or health campaigns. Help organise and promote community events to strengthen relationships and community spirit. Work collaboratively with other Champions, community groups, health partners and the local council to address shared priorities. Share insights with your Coordinator to help Camden Council and partners understand local health needs and barriers. Take part in training and development opportunities Promote inclusion and equality, ensuring activities are accessible and welcoming to all members of your community.

You don’t need formal qualifications, we’re looking for people who care about their community and want to make a difference. Essential qualities: You live Highgate. Friendly, approachable, and able to talk to people from all backgrounds. Passionate about improving your community’s health and wellbeing. Reliable and willing to give a few hours each week. Respectful of confidentiality, diversity, and different opinions. A good listener who values residents’ voices and ideas. Desirable qualities: Experience of volunteering or community involvement. Interest in topics like health, wellbeing, environment, or family support. Ability to help organise local activities or events. Basic digital or communication skills (posting on WhatsApp, helping with flyers, etc.).
