IF INTERESTED PLEASE APPLY USING THIS LINK: https://app.betterimpact.com/PublicOrganization/af8f9280-73b9-49de-b741-01d01092faa2/1 Days available: Tuesday 10am -5pm Role title: Young people’s Service Volunteer Overall lead for the role: Louisa Dudin Day to day handover and support: Louisa Dudin and Frenchesca James Young Accountable to: Voluntary Services Trust Lead Minimum commitment: Six hours per week for six months or 120 hours Location: Based at Basil Samuel Outpatients, National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery ROLE OVERVIEW AND PURPOSE This role is within the Children and Young Peoples Team at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. We have many young people move from children to adult services every week. They attend the hospital for follow up appointments and are admitted to the hospital wards. This role was created to support young people in negotiating the various adult departments; adapting to the wider geography of the Queen Square complex and helping them understand what their entitlements are (eg claiming back fares, requesting to be seen outside of school hours). Volunteers will help young people at their first appointments, run an information desk and support the Youth Worker. When not patient facing, the volunteer will have the opportunity to help in the back office. This role will suit people who are interested youth development. We are looking for a person who appreciates what a young person might face during this transition and support their choices, thereby reducing health inequalities. This role has three main parts. To support patients who are attending their transition appoint or first appointment in adult services. There are three transitions clinics per month. The volunteer would support patients pre or post clinic, taking them to the new outpatients’ areas; the day case unit, pharmacy, cashiers, and phlebotomy. On the days when there are no clinics to support, the volunteer will be based in outpatients, staffing our information desk. There is the opportunity for the volunteer to work with the Youth Support Worker. Such as supporting with peer groups. Or spending time with young people who are admitted to the hospital in a befriending capacity. All equipment will be provided by the Children and Young Peoples Team. When supporting young people attending a transition clinic: To take young people who have attend an outpatient appointment to the key areas in the adult hospital. To direct to available resources in leaflet, pamphlet, or digital form. When managing the information desk: To provide written information to young people in leaflet, pamphlet, or digital form Use the tablet provided by the team to direct people to online resources/groups. To order appropriate stock for information racks To display information in an accessible way To ensure information in the written resources is up to date, accurate and relevant. To assist Outpatients’ Staff from time to time When supporting the Youth Support Worker; Supporting the Youth Support Worker is subject to the patient's need on that day. To support peer group sessions by bringing young people to where the session is being held from their ward and back again. Supporting with craft or game sessions We know this part of the role may not be everyone's cup of tea. We will ask you to shadow the peer group or activity sessions first and support you in doing so To help with minor admin tasks in the back office To sign in and out using the Better Impact App and record patient interactions To wear appropriate PPE

What is in it for you

We do not want volunteers to be out of pocket for the volunteer work they do at UCLH therefore all attempts will be made to reimburse out-of pocket expenses. Volunteers are entitled to the following expenses: • Out of pocket travel expenses (daily upper limit of £4.50) that show travelling to and from home to the Trust hospital sites. • Reimbursement of meals or refreshment if you volunteer over a lunch time period and for over 4 hours. There is a maximum limit of £4.50
