Blether Buddies meet with an older ScotsCare client once a week or fortnightly in our client's home or their community for a friendly chat. This simple gift of time and companionship helps to reduce loneliness and social isolation. A six-month commitment is preferred, although many stay involved for longer than this, only because they enjoy what they do. The meetings are something both clients and volunteers look forward to. If you want to meet new people, or learn new skills, this could be the ideal role for you.

Language Skills
No experience is necessary, more importantly you will need: - to be reliable. committed, honest and trustworthy - a warm and friendly nature - to speak clearly in English and possess good listening skills - to be non-judgemental - an understanding of the need to respect confidentiality and maintain boundaries (training provided) - to be able to commit to regular meetings for 6 months or longer
We provide training before you start to help you feel confident in the role, and ongoing support once you are matched. Two references are required, and an enhanced DBS check is processed. Many befrienders stay involved for the longer term, but only because they enjoy what they do. Out of pocket expenses are reimbursed for travel and the cost of refreshments. In return for your support, we can provide references if you need them, additional training that relates to your role. We also run social events to thank volunteers and to recognise their valuable contribution. You will receive a very warm welcome at ScotsCare, why not join our community!
The time commitment varies depending on our clients needs and interests. Meetings can be weekly, fortnightly and very occasionally monthly, and normally last between 1 - 2 hours. Phone calls are usually between 15 -90 minutes.
