Hub Helper, Critical Support
Critical Support
Looking for a rewarding role helping supply tonnes of food to over 25 charities, and thousands of people in need, across South London and beyond? Critical Support in Mitcham is on the hunt for enthusiastic Food Hub Helpers to distribute Felix Project and City Harvest donations to our growing roster of local charity partners. Full training and support will be provided to applicants who can commit to a minimum of one morning/afternoon a week (Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays or Fridays).
Critical Support (formerly Critical NHS) was founded in 2020 during the Covid-19 crisis as a spontaneous initiative to bring food to exhausted NHS workers during lockdown. Since then the organisation has expanded, in association with The Felix Project, Fareshare, City Harvest and Hovis, to take a local lead in redirecting surplus food to the vulnerable and those facing financial hardship across South London. In doing so, we work with more than 25 organisations confronting the devastating effects of poverty, war, homelessness and domestic violence, to reach over 10,000 people with approximately 4.5 tonnes of fresh and ambient food, clothing and toiletries every week. The weekly food we distribute is the equivalent of 35,000 - 40,000 meals. From unloading and sorting deliveries, to supporting partner charities collecting donations from our Mitcham Hub, the Food Hub Volunteer role is essential to Critical Support’s weekly activities. The Hub Helper role includes: • Loading and unloading Felix Project, Fareshare, City Harvest & Hovis donations • Greeting charity partners and clients as the friendly face of Critical Support • Sensitively meeting client needs (e.g. Halal & vegetarian food requirements) • Quality checking packaging and ensuring food is in date • Helping maintain a ‘clean as you go’ food-safe Hub environment Please note that this role requires a level of physical fitness sufficient for moderate – heavy lifting.
