Irish Community Services

Your role is to provide short respite for the carer through supporting & be-friending the cared for person.

Detailed Description

Helping carers & their cared for is the aim. Under the Scheme, a trained volunteer is introduced to carer from the Irish Community who would benefit from some short respite. The same volunteer visits each week and sits with the cared for client at an agreed regular time, with a view to developing a friendship – having chats over a cup of tea, sharing news, playing cards or scrabble, or going for a walk to the local park. You are not there to provide any form of personal or domestic care or any other practical tasks. Volunteers will be required to be available for at least 4 hours every two weeks.
