Grandmentors Camden is seeking volunteers across the borough willing to empower and support young people transitioning from the care system to independent living. Every year, many young people aged 16 -24 leave the care system in Camden Borough and far too many are isolated or not prepared for life after care or are not in education, employment or training. The overall aim of a Grandmentor is to improving the life skills, self-esteem and confidence of the young person by providing support.

Grandmentors Camden is seeking volunteers across the borough willing to empower and support young people transitioning from the care system to independent living. Typical duties of a Grandmentor: > Improving life skills, self-esteem and confidence. > Providing advice on managing emotional and physical wellbeing. > Signposting to public services that offer housing, legal and financial assistance. > Helping a mentee set goals concerning education, employment or training. > Assisting with language development for Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children. > Offering guidance on building positive relationships and avoiding negative influences. Due to the nature of the role, we are particularly interested to hear from volunteers aged 45 plus. You must be committed to meeting (online or face-to-face) a young person 1-2 hours weekly or bi-weekly for at least 1 year. You will receive full training and ongoing guidance. All expenses incurred during active mentorship will be paid.

Basic IT skills - internet & email, Counselling, Evaluating & Reviewing, Organising & Planning
Basic IT and communication skills are needed to communicate with mentees, staff and other mentors, and to use our system to record outcomes after each mentoring session with a young person. You must be open-minded, empathetic, patient and helpful to establish a beneficial relationship.
The joy of working with young people is unique as they bring their own life experiences, needs and expectations. This makes the role of a Grandmentor highly rewarding and never boring. This role is beneficial and gratifying to someone passionate about helping vulnerable young people transform their lives for the better. In addition, anyone looking to enter or re-enter youth work as a paid worker, but lacks the necessary expertise or insight can gain beneficial experience. We provide mentors with full training and guidance, and all expenses incurred during active mentoring will be paid.
Must be committed to meeting up with the young person weekly/bi-weekly for a minimum period of 1 year. Regular check in is required where a meet up in person is not possible.
