Volunteer Garden Support Assistant

Assistant to gardener maintaining the gardens : annual bedding, perennials & half hardy tropicals
• Assist with the presentation of the garden • Weeding flower beds. • Sweeping and tidying paths. • Assist with turf care operations such as scarifying and edging • Assist with composting. • Skilled cover for watering etc. during periods of leave and sickness. • Providing security and conversation, (when needed) for patients who need to be alone and out of the clinical environment in times of distress. Time requirement: 3-6 hours a week on Mondays.

• Experienced gardener, preferably with a level 2 qualification in horticulture. Physically fit and able to climb ladders and move heavy weights. • Good plant knowledge with experience of a range of horticultural techniques. • Good team player and excellent communication skills & the ability to positively interact with patients. • A good understanding of, and commitment to the Core Mission and Values of St Joseph’s Hospice. Desirable: Some experience of working/volunteering in a palliative care setting. PA1/PA2 spraying certificates.
• Gain new skills and experience in a unique horticultural environment. • Training provided. • Work within a friendly team.
