Prison & Probation-Based Housing Support Volunteer

You will provide advice & support on housing matters to help people avoid homelessness on release,.

Detailed Description

In this role, you will be supporting us with all or some of the following tasks: • Adding capacity to the staff team that are based in the prison. • Explaining the housing options available to clients upon release. • Helping clients to fill out housing forms. • Supporting clients to access a range of housing options • Carrying out in-person or telephone housing assessments. • Updating clients as their cases progress. • Collaborating with external partners and agencies like probation offices • Adhering to St Mungo’s Policies and Procedures at all times.

What skills are required for this role

Good IT Skills, Negotiating, Organising & Planning, Reading & Writing

Why these skills are required

• Feeling comfortable in a prison environment. • Have personal resilience. • Good IT skills. • Be eligible and willing to complete prison security clearance (can take up to 3 months). • Client and customer focused. • Experience of working within the criminal justice system and/or the homeless sector and/or relevant studies is welcome but not essential • A friendly personality, good interpersonal skills, enthusiasm and motivation. • An understanding of the causes of homelessness and its impact. • Genuine interest in and commitment to St Mungo’s work and client group

Time Commitment

Brixton, Feltham and Thameside – Monday- Thursday, 10am-4pm, (although some days may require an 8am start), 1-2 days per week.
