MertonVision is introducing a brand-new volunteer role designed to provide vital support to blind and partially sighted individuals attending hospital or doctor's appointments. This unique opportunity is on an ad-hoc basis, meaning you will be contacted when a client requires assistance, with as much notice as possible. Many of our clients find hospital visits stressful and challenging to navigate. As a Hospital Support Volunteer, your presence could make a significant difference, offering reassurance and practical support during what can be an overwhelming experience.

Why these skills are required

Role Responsibilities: • Accompany a blind or partially sighted individual to and from a hospital or doctor’s appointment. • Assist with navigating the hospital or clinic, ensuring they reach the correct ward or department. • For longer appointments, provide drop-off and pick-up support as needed. • Offer companionship and reassurance during the journey. • Driving is not required for this role, as the client may prefer to travel via public transport. Requirements: • No qualifications needed. • Compassionate, patient, and understanding of the challenges faced by blind and partially sighted individuals. • Reliable and able to provide support on an ad-hoc basis. • Open communication with the Volunteering Services Manager. • Willingness to follow policies and attend relevant training.
