Detailed Description

You will be helping to create a lasting cultural legacy! We’re looking for volunteers to be our history detectives... To scour the internet and physical archives in East London and beyond, helping us find, bring together and index Newham’s forgotten music stories, venues and performers. You will be looking for music venue locations, radio stations, parties, the people who ran them and connected materials like old posters, flyers and photos. You will receive training in how to research physical archives. Support will also be offered in how best to conduct internet research.

Why these skills are required

It would be useful to have some knowledge of communities, music genres and venues in Newham, and a knowledge of or interest in local history and archival research. You should be confident with searching for information on the internet. You should have good written English and be computer literate to help summarise and collate the information. You will need access to a home computer and the internet and a good eye for detail. You may be required to travel to other archives in London or Essex.
