Kirkaldy's Testing Works
The volunteer will help to deliver our "Material Difference" workshop to KS5 students.
Kirkaldy's Testing works has developed a workshop for KS5 students in which they use some of our historic materials testing machines to explore the materials element of the A-level Physics syllabus. Our education volunteers guide the students through the activities with the support of staff from the visiting school and from Kirkaldy's event coordinator. There are four stations in each workshop; the volunteer will become familiar with the operating instructions and H&S requirements for each. Excellent communication skills are essential. Full training will be provided.

Our education volunteers must be good communicators and must have empathy with younger people (our target age for workshop attendees is 16-18). Retired or part-time teachers of mathematics/physics/design technology or retired engineers would be ideal for this role.
Our education volunteers derive great satisfaction from sharing their skills and knowledge with young people and hopefully encouraging them to pursue a career in science and engineering. You will work as part of a team and you will be encouraged to contribute and develop ideas for extending our education programme to other groups.
We need our education volunteers to be available during weekdays during the school term for possibly 4 morning/afternoons per month, depending on school bookings.
