Community Champion

Alcohol Change UK

Volunteer as an Alcohol Change UK Community Champion and help us to raise awareness, vital funds and campaign for change. You can be based anywhere for this role. We aren't necessarily looking for someone with lots of skills, just somebody who would like to see the harms from alcohol reduced and can help out here and there as opportunities arise. Alcohol Change UK are not anti-alcohol, but we are for creating change to help improve people's lives.

Detailed Description

What is a Community Champion? Being a Community Champion for Alcohol Change UK means lots of different things, depending on your skills and interests. What unites all of our Community Champion is an interest in reducing the harms caused by alcohol and the way it is consumed in an unhealthy way. There are some ideas of what you can opt to do below. Opportunities will arise throughout the year and you will be able to join in or help out if you have time. For example, at busy times of year we might have lots of media opportunities to speak about your experiences, sometimes we'll be looking for people to help out with how one of our campaigns look or organising people in your community to reduce alcohol harm locally. So you don't need to be available at specific times, you can just choose which activities to get involved with when you can. We welcome applications from everyone regardless of age, gender, gender identity, gender expression, ethnicity, sexual orientation, faith or disability. We particularly encourage applications from minoritised groups and communities and disabled people who are currently underrepresented, and are groups which are not well reached by our campaigns. What do we mean by community? This is really flexible too! Alcohol harm can affect anyone, from any walk of life. So we want to work with people in communities of all types across the UK to help us create change faster. Your community could be your... Local area, workplace, sports club/teams/leagues, virtual social networks, community centre, communities built on shared values/joint interests or ethnicity/sexuality/disability, another protected characteristic or shared experience. You can volunteer your time to help us to reduce alcohol harm. We have come up with a handy list of ways that you can make a real difference to our work:  Fundraising. This could be anything from holding a community tea party to an alcohol-free pub quiz to a Dry January launch event!  Campaigning. Supporting us by encouraging others to write to their local councillors or MP, or to sign petitions. This could also include setting up your own local campaigning group!  Placing materials in your community. Putting up posters and distributing leaflets to community spaces like libraries, GP surgeries, coffee shops, pharmacies and more.  Spreading the word about alcohol-free products. You can help make sure that people can access alcohol-free alternatives by talking with your local pubs and restaurants or introducing the idea in the workplace for employee/corporate events.  Promoting our campaigns. Spread awareness of campaigns such as Alcohol Awareness Week, Dry January and Sober Spring within your community.  Joining focus groups. You can help us by joining a focus group to help us test our Try Dry app, assist with fundraising campaigns or share lived experience of alcohol harm.  Sharing your story. This could be for one of our blogs, fundraising appeals, for media or even at an event with one of our corporate partners.  Volunteering your skills. Perhaps you are a keen video editor, photographer, blog writer, graphic designer, writer, printer (or something else) and can volunteer your skills to support our day-to-day work? We are always happy to hear any ideas or suggestions that you have too!
