Male befriender needed for an adult with learning disabilities - Barnet

Friendly and committed male volunteer befriender needed.
We are looking for a friendly, compassionate, and committed volunteer to befriend one of our clients who has a learning disability. You will visit her in her home as well as encouraging trips out to the local area. It might be that you listen to music together, have a chat, go out for a cup of tea or a walk in the park. As we are a Safeguarding service, you will also help us keeping your friend safe by reporting concerns to us. You will benefit from our expert Safeguarding training and the ongoing support of your supervisor.

• Ability to empathise with vulnerable adults • Good listening skills • Reliability and commitment to the role • Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect for people’s privacy • Understanding of professional boundaries • Respect for individuals, regardless of their ethnicity, gender, religion, disability, gender reassignment, sexual orientation and marital status
• Enhancing your CV and improving your career prospects • Making an important contribution to a person’s life • Developing your understanding of the needs of people with learning disabilities • References upon request (after 3 months of volunteering) • Access to our free Employee Assistance Programme
A 2-hours visit every fortnight for at least 6 months. Weekends visit are possible but you'll need to be available on a weekday for your Safeguarding training (3 hours) and your first visit.

Our office is in Islington but we are currently looking for befrienders in Barnet.
