Befrienders for people with learning disabilities needed in Barnet

Friendly and committed volunteer befrienders needed.

Detailed Description

We will pair you with one of our clients and then you will visit them in their home as well as encouraging trips out to the local area. It might be that you listen to music together, have a chat, go out for a cup of tea or a walk in the park. As we are a Safeguarding service, you also will help us keeping your friend safe by reporting concerns to us. You will benefit from our expert Safeguarding training and the ongoing support of your supervisor.

• The ability to empathise with vulnerable adults • Good listening skills • Trustworthy and reliable • Understanding of confidentiality and respect for people’s privacy • Understanding of professional boundaries • Respect for individuals, regardless of their ethnicity, gender, religion, disability, gender reassignment, sexual orientation and marital status

Time Commitment

A 2-hours visit every fortnight for at least 6 months. Weekends visit are possible but you'll need to be available on a weekday for your Safeguarding training (3 hours) and your first visit.
