The SIM Card Distribution Assistant Volunteer is a key point of contact for the refugees and asylum seekers in Islington at our drop-in centre who need to activate a new sim card or replace an expired sim card.
Union Chapel along with a number of local partners and the Islington Council have been supporting the local asylum seekers in the areas by supporting them to navigate the services that are available locally and more broadly, connecting them with local community projects, wellbeing sessions, providing ESOL classes as well as ensuring they have access to technology and SIM cards. The SIM Card Distribution Assistant Volunteer is a key point of contact for the refugees and asylum seekers in Islington at our drop-in centre who need to activate a new sim card or replace an expired sim card. Main Responsibilities: • Distribute SIM cards to refugees and asylum seekers at the drop-in centre. • Assist individuals with activating their SIM cards or replacing expired ones, ensuring they have functional phones for communication. • Provide basic guidance on how to use the SIM cards, including how to check balances, top-up, or make calls. • Help troubleshoot issues related to SIM cards and phones, such as network connectivity or registration problems. • Maintain records of SIM card distribution and ensure all personal data is handled with care and confidentiality. • Offer a friendly and supportive environment where refugees and asylum seekers feel comfortable asking questions or seeking assistance. • Collaborate with the team to ensure efficient service delivery and address any issues or challenges that arise. • Following Union Chapel’s confidentiality, safeguarding, health & safety, equal opportunities, data management and all other policies as relevant.

Essential Skills : • To be 18 years or older; • Able to travel to King Cross Baptist Church King Cross. • Good communication skills: Ability to clearly explain technical instructions in a simple, understandable manner. • Patience and empathy: Experience working with vulnerable individuals, particularly refugees and asylum seekers, is beneficial. • Basic IT skills: Ability to assist with simple technical issues related to phone services and activation processes. • Organisational skills: Ability to maintain accurate records and manage SIM card distribution effectively. Desirable • Previous experience in a customer-facing or service-oriented role is helpful but not essential. • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. • Fluency in English; additional language skills that are commonly spoken by refugees such as Arabic, Tigrinya, Amharic, Pashto, Dari, Farsi, Kurdish, Somali or Spanish are also useful.

• Ideally, a commitment of 2.5hours per week from 3-5pm every Thursday. • Helping to set up the drop-in centre and pack up upon completion.
