Volunteer Cook 5 hours a week 9am to 2pm • To prepare, cook and serve a home cooked two course meal for up to 50 people. • Must be reliable and motivated • Food Safety and Hygiene, Level 2 (Training will be arranged) • Experience of meal preparation within an elderly environment • Assist in planning/costing menus to provide a balanced nutritious diet, making the best use of available fresh foods. • Must work and abide with our safeguarding policy.
The Organisation Friends In St Helier (F.I.S.H) is a charity that promotes wellbeing and independent living for Merton’s over 50s. We provide safe and welcoming spaces where the socially isolated can meet, make friends, and enjoy a meal. The club sessions also include varied activities for members. The Role Volunteer Cook 5 hours a week 9am to 2pm The main responsibilities are: • Effective Management of the Kitchen • Plan, prepare, cook healthy, balanced meals for up to 50 • Rigorous compliance with Food Hygiene and Health & Safety legislation • Order supplies necessary to ensure quality of food and cleanliness of environment • Contribute to planning of nutritious menus • Provide alternatives for anyone with specific dietary needs • Be fully aware of allergens contained within the food they prepare Requirements • Must be motivated and reliable. • Food Safety and Hygiene, Level 2 (Training will be arranged) • Experience of meal preparation within an elderly environment • Experience of menu planning, ordering and stock control • Experience and Knowledge of Safer Food better Management system, Environmental Health Food Safety and health and Safety regulations. • Experience of all the necessary record keeping / documentation • Knowledge and understanding of catering for a variety of dietary needs • Good Organisation and Communication skills • Experience of working independently in a kitchen • Happy to work with volunteers, staff, and the elderly. • Due to the nature of the working environment an enhanced DBS will be required • Must work and abide with our safeguarding policy. The role is ideal for Older people, seeking work, long term commitment.
