Befriender

Age UK Islington

We are looking for empathetic and nurturing volunteers with great communication and relationship building skills. As a befriender you will cultivate a relationship with a befriendee both over a device and in person, offering a degree of emotional and physical support and friendship. Record interactions with your befriendee to the Befriending Coordinator and conduct regular reviews with them to keep accurate client records.

Detailed Description

We are looking for patient, empathetic, nurturing volunteers that enjoy connecting with others and offering support to those who may feel socially isolated. You will regularly communicate with your befriendee and build a trusting and supportive relationship with them. You will engage in reasonable activities with your befriendee that may benefit their quality of life. You will encourage them to attend social gatherings and try new hobbies where appropriate. You will maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries and participate in relevant training that we provide. You will report each interaction with your befriendee to the Befriending Coordinator and conduct regular reviews with them to keep accurate client records. With any home or public visits, you will need access to a car or be able to use public transportation (expenses will be provided).

Time Commitment
