Must be in or have completed a BACP or equivalent accredited course. 60 hours of 1 to 1 counselling hours are required and support of the training organisation to start client work. Personal liability cover and membership of a professional body for counselling and psychotherapy is required. Due to the nature of our work we require candidates not to have had personal experience of cancer either themselves or a close family member within the preceding two years or been bereaved within the preceding two years. We are particularly interested in recruiting counsellors who are able to counsel in community languages as well as English.
Counsellors are encouraged to be in personal counselling/therapy and to commit to ongoing professional development within a related area of work. Volunteer counsellors in training will be required to attend group supervision, those who are qualified will receive cost towards supervision. Training provided by TMC, two trainings towards CPD annually, and attendance at team meetings are required. Counsellors will have reviews with the Senior Counsellor initially 3 months after joining then subsequently every year, as a way of compassionately monitoring and supporting their work. These are of an informal and confidential nature. The centre offers £50 per annum towards professional development within related areas, after six months as a volunteer at the centre.
