We offer 1-2-1 volunteering advice sessions and attend community events to increase awareness of local volunteering.
Would you like to connect Islington’s residents with local volunteering opportunities? Voluntary Action Islington (VAI) runs the local Volunteer Centre Islington (VCI). We enable good practices in volunteering management for organisations, help promote volunteering opportunities and connect residents with live volunteering opportunities. As a Community Volunteering Advisor, your role will involve: - Talking to people interested in volunteering to identify their interests and needs. - Helping people to register / update their volunteer’s profile on our database system. - Identifying suitable opportunities that match with the volunteer’s interest. - Sending an email or posting a letter with relevant opportunities, next steps and additional advice offered. - Offering the volunteer to make the first contact with the organisation. - Recording relevant information about the steps taken. - Conducting follow-up work to identify if the volunteer has started to volunteer, requires further support to find a role or make contact with the organisation, or any other relevant assistance. - Participating in community outreach activities to promote volunteering across the London Borough of Islington. Occasionally, you will also complete follow-up work with organisations to identify if the organisation looks for more volunteers, requires extending or closing an opportunity, confirms volunteering placements.

You will be mainly using Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Calendar, Excel), the internet, our volunteering database system and the telephone. We are looking for volunteers who have these skills: - A friendly, supportive and non-judgemental attitude. - Good communication and listening skills, utilising a person-centred approach. - Basic computer and internet skills. - Good attention to detail for data entry. People speaking community languages are welcome to apply for this role.
This role is suitable for people who would like to gain experience in an office environment. You will gain customer service and administrative experience, and develop communications, community work, database management and volunteer management skills. Voluntary Action Islington offers induction, training relevant to the role, out-of-pocket expenses (transport and lunch when volunteering for over 4 hours in a day), ongoing support and references.
We are looking for 4 volunteers who can commit at least 4 hours per week for 3 months.

Buses that run along Pentonville Road include 30, 73, 214. Additional buses that stop at King’s Cross Station include 10, 17, 45, 46, 63, 91, 259, 390. Trains to King’s Cross, St Pancras or Euston. Tube: Piccadilly, Circle, Victoria, Hammersmith and City, Northern and Metropolitan lines all pass through King’s Cross Station. Car parking: Parking meters in the surrounding streets.
