Are you wanting to give back something to your local community? Our volunteer drivers support our registered clients by transporting neighbours to hospital, doctor, hospital appointments, social and activities and events which promote inclusion and wellbeing.
Are you wanting to give back something to your local community? We are looking for Volunteer Drivers who are caring, considerate, patient and understanding and willing to drive their own car to new places exploring Hampton, Hampton Hill and the surrounding areas. This volunteer role is flexible and requires a reliable and confident person with the skills to navigate local roads. If you have a fully compliant vehicle, this is the ideal role for you! You will support in collecting, dropping off and returning from their residence in Hampton and Hampton Hill and drive to medical appointments and activities including social events and group outings. The driver will assist neigbours en route to services and support people who may use a walking aid. A responsible attitude is vital along with a good driving record. Your vehicle should be clean and presentable at all times, fully insured, road legal and well maintained. You will receive mileage expenses based on the journey. Many of our residents tell us that they enjoy meeting new people and discovering local places themselves. One resident recently shared: "Just had to let you know how amazing my volunteer driver was. I had an emergency appointment, and the driver picked me and got me there for my appointment. When I found out I needed to go straight to cardiology, they drove me home to pick up a few things in case the hospital kept me in. I think they should be voted volunteer of the year. Greenwood Community Centre really thought of everything." We recognise that everyone has different availability, and even occasional support can make a meaningful difference. You will need a general level of health and fitness as this is a relatively, physically active role. A keen eye for health and safety issues would be helpful but we can offer full guidance on this. Age should not be a barrier to this role as many of our volunteers are over the age of 65.
This role puts you at the heart of your community, this can be exceptionally rewarding experience for those who choose this role. Many of our volunteer drivers have stayed with us for a substantial amount of time since they found it to be such a rewarding experience.
