The board of Hampton Pool Trust is looking for an accountant or someone with a background in finance to strengthen its skill base. Hampton Pool is a heated outdoor lido, with a gym and exercise studio and a rooftop café open to all 365 days a year. The pool is situated on the edge of Bushy Park in Richmond upon Thames on land licensed from The Royal Parks. The pool supports the health and wellbeing of the community through swimming and exercise, offering a range of water based and dry side activities, hosting many sports clubs, and community groups. Summer picnic fundraising concerts are held at the pool in July each year and Trust outreach includes fundraising at other community events. The pool and facilities are owned by Hampton Pool Trust, a charity set up to secure the pool for future generations with a particular focus on health and wellbeing. Currently managed by YMCA St Paul’s Group (soon to be handed over to new operator South Downs Leisure) the Trust oversees the operation of the site and organises the annual series of summer concerts. Hampton Pool Trust has been responsible for the survival, and growth of Hampton Heated Open Air Swimming Pools since 1985. It exists to ensure that the pool is well managed and continues to thrive as a community facility into the foreseeable future. The Trust has planning consent for an award-winning redevelopment of the pool buildings and infrastructure to create a fully accessible, sustainable, and future proofed community facility. The first phase prioritises accessibility, community and family space, and environmental sustainability and work is soon to be completed on Phase 1A of these works (April 2025). The Sunday Times has described Hampton Pool as “one of Britain’s coolest, biggest, hippest pools”. The current board consists of 12 members who meet 8 times per year for a full board meeting. Trustees are expected to contribute to sub-committees and typically spend an average of 6 to 8 hours a week on Trust business. Day-to-day banking and payments are handled by a paid Accounts professional but the Trust has no other paid staff so this is a hands-on role. This is an interesting and worthwhile opportunity to contribute to securing the future of open-air swimming at Hampton Pool by enhancing the facilities and programmes for swimming and other activities that promote healthy life styles and well-being. You will also be helping to make Hampton Pool an inspiration for the popularity of sustainable, open-air swimming, and good management of a local community facility.
