As a Volunteer Employability Mentor, your primary goal is to support mentees on a one-to-one basis in their journey towards employment. This involves assisting with job searches, guiding them through the application process, and preparing them for interviews. You will help mentees reflect on essential workplace skills acquired through workshops, empowering them to set and achieve both short- and long-term employment and learning goals.
Role Overview As a Volunteer Employability Mentor, your primary goal is to support mentees on a one-to-one basis in their journey towards employment. This involves assisting with job searches, guiding them through the application process, and preparing them for interviews. You will help mentees reflect on essential workplace skills acquired through workshops, empowering them to set and achieve both short- and long-term employment and learning goals. Key Responsibilities • Provide personalised support to mentees, addressing their employment and education concerns. • Assist mentees in exploring their options and leveraging new opportunities. • Use professional expertise to offer advice and support with: o Job searches o Application processes o CV writing o Interview preparation • Collaborate with and refer mentees to LPPI’s Employment Project Coordinator to ensure they receive comprehensive support in alignment with LPPI’s Safeguarding Policy. Qualifications and Skills • Experience as a professional in the private or public sector, or as an entrepreneur. • Willingness to provide emotional, social, and practical support within appropriate limits. • Strong awareness of personal boundaries and the ability to set them effectively. • Belief in the potential of all individuals and a commitment to helping them identify and use their strengths. • Successful completion of a DBS background check and induction training. Supervision and Training • Access to group supervision and training sessions provided by the Employment Project Coordinator. • Opportunity for one-to-one meetings with the Employment Project Coordinator as needed. Time Commitment • Weekly mentoring sessions. • Minimum commitment of 2 hours per week, with flexibility for in-person, phone, or video call contact as appropriate.
