Detailed Description

Want to add some creativity, joy and excitement to your week? Ministry of Stories is looking for Creative Writing Mentors to help young people in Hackney, Tower Hamlets and Islington develop their imaginations, skills and self-confidence! Ministry of Stories is a creative writing charity based in east London. We work with children aged 6-18 providing a safe and inclusive space for young writers to explore their creativity, build their confidence and find their voice. We run exciting writing projects at our community writing centre and across schools in east London. Past projects include Poetry Anthologies, Podcasts, Audio Books, Songwriting and an Escape Room. All our sessions are run by professional writing facilitators and supported by volunteer creative writing mentors. Our creative writing mentors give our young writers 1:1 support during sessions. They encourage confidence, creativity and a sense of play, inspiring our young writers. You don’t need to be a writer or have previous experience working with children, just lots of enthusiasm and care for children' s creativity! We will provide all the necessary training at our volunteer induction day. Expectations We expect all of our volunteers to commit to a minimum of six sessions every six months. Workshops are approximately 1 ½ hours long, during the day, with 30 minute briefing and debrief sessions before and after. We have sessions on weekdays and Saturdays. We are especially keen to take on volunteers who can commit to our longer-term projects and volunteer each week, or every few weeks.
