Detailed Description

Home-Start Bromley is a registered charity that seeks to provide an early intervention service that supports parents and their children. The families that we support may be vulnerable, experiencing transitions, going through periods of difficulty, whatever the reason we believe that parenting is a demanding role, and we all find it challenging at times. We believe that support and a friendly non judgemental face can make all the difference. At the heart of our service is our trained and trusted volunteers who provide support to our families. We are always looking for people with a genuine desire to make a difference to their local community to volunteer with us. Our aim is to support families with young children when they need us the most, "reach the family reach the child". We are therefore looking for volunteer Parent Mentors to work with vulnerable families. The role will require that volunteers provide emotional and practical support to a family that they are carefully matched to. Home-Start Bromley provides volunteer parental support to families with the London of Bromley and Lewisham area with at least one child under 5. Mentors typically provide 2-3 hours support a week, for which full training is provided, as well as ongoing support.

Why these skills are required

We are looking for volunteers who are themselves parents, grandparents, or foster carers, who have experience of parenting. We are looking for both men and women. We asked that volunteers are able to commit to the training involved, as well 2- 3 hours a week over at least 6 months to support a family. All volunteers will be required to complete a DBS check.
