The most important thing is a genuine desire to help and support an older person (the client). - Basic friendliness is much valued, and this can be from a volunteer who is shy as well as from a more confident individual - Driving skills are useful but not vital
It can be very rewarding to meet someone new and make such a difference to an older person's life in just a couple of hours a week or fortnight. The 'client' often shares interesting facts about their life or the past, or simply communicates a positive and appreciative response.
